Technological advancements in adhesive application and quality control continues to evolve. Leary’s solutions deliver quality cartons in an efficient and sustainable way. Leary highlights eight products to add to the quality assurance solution you offer your customers.
Cold Glue Application. Precise, reliable adhesive application is achieved with the Sempre-i cold-glue valve. Four key factors separate this valve; physical characteristics, internal component design, optimized glue path and adhesive viscosity range. The narrow profile guarantees access to areas on all cartons and machines, additionally, the purge valve is on the cable, away from the machine for quick and safe purging. Internally, it boasts a more powerful coil and a longevity guarantee of one billion cycles. The valve offers faster valve starts and stops without tailing, extended life with minimal component replacements and decreased downtime with less nozzle wiping. The glue path reduces adhesive sheering, delivering precise application at all speeds. The Sempre-i valve works with a wide range of glue viscosities, 300 to 4,000 cps, for precision even with difficult substrates.
Mixed Copy Inspection. Equally as important is ensuring against mixed copy product. Guaranteeing the correct copy has been printed on each folding carton protects you, the brand owner, and the customer. This is important when handling multiple versions of the same product with minor variations. Mistakes in the process can easily happen and be difficult to spot visually; even more so when printing composite sheets. Often, errors are only identified by the consumer, resulting in monetary loss of product with costs pushed down to the folding carton plant – and loss of customer confidence can be even more costly.
Leary offers both sensor and camera solutions to monitor for mixed copy. Pharmacode and Laser 1D code reading can be beneficial solutions for long production runs with the ease-of-setup and added flexibility. An alternative mixed copy solution with significant advantages is the iCode 2D camera solution. Inspect both 1D and 2D codes, with flexibility in code orientation and code print quality; all without impacting speed.
Software advantages to aid in mixed copy inspection assist in a plant’s best practice processes. Unique settings such as allowing only one barcode to be learned per job prevents operators from inadvertently relearning a mix. Barcode challenges can be recorded by programming a specific barcode value in Monet, for the ‘challenge label’. This value can be used to track challenge SOPs – further ensuring against mixed copy.
SAFE Software. Leary’s SAFE Software is a new technology developed to prevent CTQ (critical to quality) changes. SAFE Software eliminates human error for repeat jobs by storing defined best-practice settings as a default. Pertinent variables, consistent from job to job are protected from operator changes. Setting changes made during a production run automatically returns to defaulted setting.
Additionally, customers can use Leary’s password retrieval system to retrieve a one-time password, protecting against shared passwords and unnecessary setting changes. For unique situations requiring overrides to tolerances or quality check options, passwords can only be requested by pre-authorized users. These changes are recorded with who, when and why the password was requested.
Camera Inspection. Leary continues to offer a full line of camera technology for quality control, delivering exceptional results. The LearyVIEW range of cameras includes options for inspection of glue and non-glued areas, flaps, folds, labels, inserts, code reading, Braille and full carton print inspection. Monitoring for multiple inspection points in one area proves to be an advantage for camera technology.
The LearyVIEW Glue camera solution is capable of glue detection across the entire carton surface, as opposed to sensors narrow field of view and can monitor for flaps, folds and detect for skewed cartons.
LearyVIEW Print inspection is a unique inline retrofit option which is installed after almost any existing folder gluer aligning section. This widely used solution meets the demands of customers requiring the highest level of quality, with Delta-E color inspection, OCR and automated setup from a pre-press PDF, to deliver flawless print and registration.
In-Line Diverter Rejection. Quality checks on automated production lines requires reliable product rejection, achieved with Leary’s In-Line Diverter ejector. Offering the same performance as OEM ejectors on new machines, this is uniquely retrofittable even for older machines.
iQ Status. Verifying that machines are performing to target is achieved with Leary’s new iQ Status production display solution. This visual management tool can be used to display real-time data with user-customizable content related to the machine and job on a large screen for an at-a-glance look at the metrics that contribute to success.
The iQ Status displays can be mounted over each machine, delivering useful detail for managers and operators. In addition, a screen can be placed in an office location to monitor productivity of multiple machines at once in the same way. iQ Status is compatible with Leary’s MaQ+ and Array controllers and visually shows if quality solutions are delivering intended results.
