Drupa 2008

W. H. Leary hails a Successful Drupa 2008

The message was loud and clear at Drupa 2008!  Leary’s Folding Carton Solutions are Simple™ with Easy to Use Monet™ Job Set-Up.

Leary’s current LS controller line, with cutting edge gluing and inspection technology, has been paired with an interface that is so Simple™ to use that it immediately delivers a cost savings to customers.

This cost savings comes from the ability Monet™ has to decrease both make-ready time and training time. Production time is increased as operators easily maneuver through the program, monitoring all functions of gluing, inspection and data collection with ease.  Training is decreased as the Monet™ software automatically configures the valve, trigger and detection locations on the carton after selecting one of the pre-configured carton styles.

The new software program is filled with unique advantages that make the entire gluing and detection process Simple™ and operator friendly.

 New Office Opens in Germany

ImageDrupa’s location was the perfect backdrop for the opening of Leary’s newest office in Wuppertal, Germany.  On June 6, 2008, Kevin C. Leary, President and CEO, appointed Bernd Friedewald as the Business Development Manager of the German market.  Bernd is a seasoned packaging veteran with experience in Sales and Marketing in the packaging industry.

The new location will allow W. H. Leary to more efficiently meet the needs of the European packaging customers.  Germany is a central location for major developments in the Folding Carton Industry and Leary’s German office will further develop relationships with packaging OEMs and end users.  We at W. H. Leary are excited about the impact we will make on the European market.

Drupa Message coming to the US

Leary is extremely optimistic about the response during Drupa to their new message: ‘Folding Carton Solutions made Simple™ with Easy to Use Monet™ Job Setup’.  “We are confident it will change the way folding carton companies run their plant floor.”  Bill Kendall, Leary’s Vice President of OEM Development further explains that, “…reducing make-ready time is key to keeping production levels up.  It’s about time. If you can reduce make-ready time on a gluer, you’ll have more carton production and a more efficient plant.”

Plants spend thousands of dollars exploring new ways to train employees on reducing the time between jobs on a gluer.  The ability to have a glue application and quality assurance system that helps minimize the overall set-up time further separates Leary from the competition.

Leary’s Monet™ software is standard on all new LS-4 and LS-9.16 controllers and is available for upgrade on existing controllers. This new generation of systems is all developed with a common goal: to allow customers to benefit from leading edge technology, much of it unique to W. H. Leary products, while simultaneously making equipment that is easier for operators to understand and use.

We are also looking forward to displaying our Monet™ software October 2-7 at Direction 2008 in Roseland, NJ, and at Graph Expo in Chicago, October 26-29.

Drupa Review

Drupa continues to be one of the most anticipated shows in the packaging industry.  The fourteen-day show attracts customers and prospects from around the world looking for new technologies and products while planning their capital expenditures.  Leary’s  customers and prospects from over twenty countries received answers to their questions and demonstrations on how simple and intuitive Monet™ is when maneuvering through and setting up a new job. One observer commented that, “The Monet interface is the ‘Apple’ version for glue application and quality assurance.”

Leary Introduces Liquid Fill Carton Solution

Leary also launched their new Quality Assurance system to the Liquid Fill carton market. This was designed in partnership with International Paper Box Machine Company in Geneva, the leading flame seal manufacturer.. Leary’s in-line folding carton technology was implemented when developing a system to detect the seven most common liquid fill carton defects experienced by liquid fill carton manufacturers. Some of these are hem cut through, hem out, gap, skew and mixed copy detection as well as options to expand for other monitoring in the future. Leary also demonstrated its Max ejector.  At speeds up to 800 meters/minute, it automatically removes any defect that is identified. During Drupa, Leary worked with IPBM- Geneva, Western Slope, and Fortuna, to develop and implement new ways to service the liquid fill market.  Click here to view the IPBM / Leary Liquid Fill Solution Video
